Avalon River Cruise – unpack & relax

What it’s all about

Only unpacking once. A new place to explore each day and excursions included in price paid. Small riverboat so not many passengers (only 104 on our trip) and opportunity to meet different people for each meal. On most decks you can lie in bed and watch the world go by.

Unforgettable highlights

Our cruise was from Paris to the Normandy Beaches and highlights were:

  • A full day at the D Day Landing Beaches where we saw Pegasus Bridge which was captured for the Allies and all the famous beaches where the different countries troops landed
  • The beautiful village of Honfleur
  • Gorgeous Monet’s garden of Giverny
  • A visit to Auvers sur Ouise where Van Gogh lived and painted

Insider tips

We went at the end of April and it was freezing – dress for the weather. Don’t need formal clothing just smart casual. Their most popular itinerary is from Amsterdam to Vienna. Book the Earlybird special and get airfare credits or other additional benefits. The food onboard is amazing.

Suits a traveller who

Maybe doesn’t like open sea cruising but likes the idea of a relaxed holiday. Great for couples and singles and all costs are known before you leave. A great way for everyone to explore Europe in a relaxed informal atmosphere. You don’t feel any movement of the boat.

Travel essentials

Layers for weather conditions. Walking shoes. Time before or after cruise to explore the destination.

Be aware

You will eat well and it is all included; local wine and beer with evening meal and light lunch served in the lounge if you prefer. You may expand your waistline.
