An 18 day Intrepid Travel tour visiting Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. We were a group of 15, plus Pablo our tour guide. I arrived a day early so had a lovely day to visit the cobbled town of Antigua.
In Copan we visited the Lunar Jaguar Hot Springs with its many pools and then the Mayan site of Copan.
In Suchitoto we had a combo tour that included a scramble down a steep rocky bank to see a lookalike Giant’s Causeway, to Grandma’s to see her rolling cigars, an indigo dye factory and an art gallery. I visited the local school to give them colouring books, pencils and stickers I’d bought with me.
I then had a lovely relaxing two days at the beach at El Cuco, El Salvador, and then we crossed the Gulf of Fonseca in a small boat and into Nicaragua, firstly to the city of Leon and then to Granada. Nicaragua is probably the poorest country we visited and they still have horses and carts on the roads. In Granada we looked into the Masaya Volcano crater.
We spent 2 days on Omatepe Island and 3 of our group spent 10 hours hiking Concepcion Volcano.
Our last country was Costa Rica which I enjoyed the most as we visited two Cloud Forests and saw lots of birds, reptiles and animals. Roads here are abysmal – over 4 hours to go 73km!
It was a fabulous trip with a great group of mostly young people who made me very welcome.
