Commence your journey in Auckland, heading south to Wellington via Taupo, before crossing the Cook Straight by ferry and continuing from Picton via Kaikoura on the east coast back into the middle to Arthurs Pass, through to Hokitika an the West Coast. Explore Franz Josef Glacier before arriving in Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand. After a few days there head back north via Lake Tekapo at the bottom of Mt Cook through to Christchurch; then onto Picton, where you once again cross the Cook Straight back to Wellington, before continuing to head north via New Plymouth and Matamata back to Auckland.
